I've now started putting short films on my YouTube channel which can be found here: Alex's YouTube Channel
While bike touring I have 2 GoPro HD cameras with me. I've fastened both of them to my bike. The first is on my right handlebar and it will record everything from approx. 7 o'clock to 11 o'clock
(back left to front left). The second is on the back rack and it will record everything from 2 o'clock to 6 o'clock (back right to front right).
I usually have one taking video and the other taking a photo every 60 seconds. This way I don't miss a thing, and neither will you. My goal for this project is to share the joy of bike touring with you. Not only do I see much more while traveling on my bike, it's very easy to stop and meet the locals, have some wine, or share some baguette. My hope is that you will enjoy seeing these countries by bike, as much as I have!
This is world famous Voldelpark in Amsterdam. I just love biking through these HUGE wide bike paths. One to people watch, but most importantly to look at the bikes! The classic Dutch style bike has the reverse brake like the one you had as a kid. And there are so many different variations. There is also a special ending to this video, fastest four legs this side of Amsterdam...enjoy!
Another day, another park. I like to ride through the biggest parks in each city. I feel as though you get a real sense of the culture there. Are there performers? Are there street buskers? What about art, do they have many sculptures, or just a few contemporary pieces. I'm not a big city guy, so clearly I gravitate towards the green spaces, so while in Rotterdam I followed the same recipe! I am getting better at this video blogging thing because this video starts in a park, but ends somewhere else...quick what's Rotterdam famous for? Biggest ......... in Europe!
Looking for a sunny morning ride? Try Haarlem, the most underrated city in the Netherlands. Just 30 minutes outside Amsterdam, but a world of difference. It is so clean for one, the people are not jaded by the overwhelming amount of UK bachelor parties, poor Amsterdam, and it's just such a nice feel to the town. This video shows the old town centre, and the open square. Merveilleux!
This is a small town in Belgium close to the France border. It starts out in some smaller cobble stone streets (the worst for a bike, my first two flat tires happened in Belgium...grrr) and then finishes on a ritzy shopping street. I just love Europe for it's outdoor patios in the summer, they really do it well! C'est merveilleux de voir des peoples ages, ou si non plus jeune, qui se promene ensemble. C'est chouette!
The Italian Doctora that saved Scott's ankle!
Switzerland - Neuchatel to Yverdons-les-bains was a gorgeous ride. Vineyards lined up one after the other. Everything set against the beautiful lake, really really appealing.

This is picturesque Delft in Netherlands. Medieval architecture and a beautiful square! I shot this just before dusk. All the cafes were lighting up their patios and the nightlife was arriving. Take a tour of this old European square!
What did the fox say?
This is a very well known lawn in Amsterdam, it is the location of the 'IAmsterdam" sign, Van Gogh Museum, and Rijks Museum. Just a quick little rip around!
Alright, here we go! This road led out of Barcelona, and it was one crazy day of riding. The non existent shoulder, with steep cliff on one side and straight up mountain on the other. This day will forever go down in history as one of the most thrilling rides of my life!
This was a very quaint little town nestled into the steep mountains in Germany. It was a CRAZY GLORIOUS downhill to the campground by the river. I had just crossed the border from the Netherlands. There was a low cloud hanging in the town that morning. I could see the blue sky poking through, I was ready to ride back up the next hill.
Madrid - Spain
Right outside the main train station in Madrid, is one of the nicest parks I've seen. It's huge, and I caught it at a wonderful time of year. Autumn, the myriad of colours in the trees in this video is stunning. Provided here on the WW for your viewing pleasure.
More of Retiro Park, because I can't get enough. This has a musical ending ;) enjoy!
Lots of flowers in the Netherlands! This was a pretty common sight while riding through the country. Rows upon rows of fresh flowers!
Hiking in the Swiss Alps clearly has some incredible views. It's not just what you see that is so memorable, it's what you hear. The Swiss have a tradition of affixing bells to their cattle. So as your walking along these beautiful mountain trails, in the distance there is always the faint sound of these beautiful ringing bells.
I love the trumpet soundtrack in Madrid!
